I like to say "plethora" - if James lipton were to ever ask me what my favorite word is, i would say "plethora". Just rolls off the tongue..."plethora".
"Zeitgeist", "zaftig", "alas" and my word du jour "phenomenal"!
I like words that evoke their meaning. "Allure" does a good job of that, I think, and "skillet" sounds exactly like the noise you get when you throw chopped onion into a hot one.
I often get stuck on saying a word again and again in my mind, more often even than songs sneak in and clog up the works.
like yr. list. last nite a friends 12 yr. old daugher laughed when i said jeepers. she said that i was the only one beside her mother who said it - in other words we're ancient. sad but true.
I like to say "ecclesiastical," "iconoclast," and "anachronism." That "ksst" sound is delicious. Hilda, I like "zaftig," too.
Other words I like for no particular reason, I just do: tatterdemalion, plebian, hoecake. My all time favorite has to be "syzygy." (By the way, I just consulted dictionary number two for the spelling of that one.)
What about 'pillow'? That's a good word. 'Water wings' two simple words that sound great together. 'Wichita'. I met my wife in 'Wichita'. Oh, and 'fudgesicle'.
I have always loved the word glue. Just say it, slowly, lovingly. Let the glottal gl burst forth into a long, drawn out ooof, naturally, the l developing organically from the g and the tongue bowing forward ... it's a fun word, is what I'm saying. People have never really understood that about me. I get these funny looks.
