Exactly! No one was more shocked than I to hear those words come out of my mouth.
And I don't even hate Nicole Kidman. I think she's perfect for certain types of parts that require caricature-ish acting under strong directors -- Stanley Kubrick, Gus van Sant, Baz Whatshisnut -- but it seemed like she was badly directed in this movie, as if the director gave her vague instructions to go for a Meg Ryan vibe, and it came off as completely flat. And Will Farrell seemed to be desperately overcompensating in an effort to create *some* kind of energy on-screen.
It was actually pretty depressing to watch, which was why we turned it off halfway through. Even though I have no huge love for Meg Ryan, the movie would probably have been passably entertaining if circa-1988-Meg had played the lead.
Huh. I just realized that although I thought nothing could make me see Bewitched, I probably would have seen a Meg Ryan version.
