Why am I finding it all too easy to picture some twentysomething guy hanging this shelf in his place and using it to showcase all his Kerouac and Hesse and Ginsberg and his treasured signed first edition of Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance?

I dunno, I don't think you can get more hobbity than Morrissey.
I think my overarching problem with the first shelf unit is that it looks like it would be entirely too cozy with a [shudder] Hummel figurines collection. No offense to anyone who collects those things but they make my skin crawl.
The problem with the second one is that it just isn't that cool or interesting for all that is trying to be.
I've actually been contemplating the Thumbthing.
That Thumbthing is pretty awesome looking, I have to say.
Heh. "Morrissey... enjoyed by hobbits everywhere."
As for the Thumbthing, initially I thought to myself, "How stupid is that?" but now this gadget has started to grow on me. My biggest problem is that I read in bed and frequently fall asleep with a book in my hands. I can all too easily imagine half waking up, reaching up to brush hair out of my face, and skewering my eye.
Ouch! That sounds painful. I think given the choice I'd pick the Hobbit bookcase, but it is a little, I dunno, craggy.
The thumbthing does look like a great idea.
I bought this thing at a recent book fair and love it so thought I should share.
