ETC: Embrace the Melancholy

Hey, thanks to everyone who posted headache AND bracelet tips yesterday. My melon is feeling marginally better, but I'm going to have to post and run because my bad typing posture definitely isn't helping.

Let me point you over to Vidiotbox, where Rusty has posted a Domo-kun music video of the song "Mad World." Despite being an awesome video to an awesome track (which some of you may remember from the soundtrack to Donnie Darko, which stars my favourite cowboy, Jake Gyllenhaal), it may seem a little melancholy to those of you experiencing that sunny, 30-degree (um, that's Celcius, my Yankee friends) weather I've been hearing so much about.

But today is June 1st, which marks the official start to June-uary around these parts. It's grey and drizzly, and the air is weirdly chilly yet humid. Embrace the melancholy with me. Let's all feel like teenaged schoolgirls together.

So sorry about the headache.

I've spent the past 5 years assertively not embracing the melancholy so I'll just cheer you teenage schoolgirls on from the sidelines.

As if on cue, Radio Paradise is playing a song sure to put one in a better mood: Pressure Drop by Toots & The Maytals (w/ Eric Clapton). I dare you to listen to it and not smile just a little.

It will be exactly 1 year ago tomorrow that I visited Vancouver for the first time (from Southwestern Ontario), and got to experience June-uary. We drove up the Sea to Sky to Whistler in fog and a light drizzle. I don't know why it didn't occur to me at the time, but "melancholy" really is the perfect word for what that experience felt like. I'm looking forward to going back in the not so distant future.

Hope your headache goes away soon :)

Today was somehow worse than yesterday, weather-wise.
The day started in thick white fog.
Then it rained heavily, but it's the warm summer rain that is just..ploppy and...thicker than regular cold rain.
Then the sun came out and things got steamy for a few hours.
Then the rain came back.
Now it's sunny again and it's not even been 12 hours since we started with fog.
Worse than a June-uary Monday in general is a June-uary Tuesday that begins at 5.30 am.
