...Happy half-birthday to yoooouuu,I love the idea of half-birthdays. They seem like something hobbits would celebrate as a way of squeezing yet another holiday into the year.
Happy half-birthday, young Master Saaaaa-aaaaam,
Happy half-birthday toooooooo yoooooouuuuuu!
My friend Kris, whose son Rian is Sam's age, and I were talking recently about the expression "a face only a mother could love." We both recollected seeing our boys for the very first time and thinking, "Whew! Thank god he ended up so perfect and beautiful, and not funny-looking!" And then we both recollected the moment, months later, whilst perusing old photos, that we came to the identical realization that mother's love definitely makes you blind.
And then we both laughed our asses off and agreed, "Well, they sure are perfect and beautiful NOW."

Ha! My girl just turned 6 months too. I also thought she was incredibly beautiful at birth, but when I look at her now, there's no comparison. Sam is really cute!
My sister and I are exactly a year and a half apart. When we were young, we each got the rough equivalent of half of the birthday girl's present and, ahem, we still do even though we are far past the sibling rivalry stage. Yay for half-birthdays!
Awww... thanks, Melissa.
I just read your most recent post! I replied at length on your site, but good golly... poor you! I have a pretty good idea of how you're feeling.
Aside from that, LOVED your "Six months" post. I wanted to agree with you that (a) the baby swing at the park ROCKS, and (b) baby Tylenol is the shiznit. Sam, on the other hand, would like to respectfully disagree with Baby A and say that (a) rice cereal with breastmilk is what God eats for breakfast, and (b) sweet potatoes taste like ass.
Congrats on the six-month-iversary! Can you believe we're already halfway to a YEAR?!
That's too cool, Meredith. What a great tradition. My sister and I were born one year and 360 days apart, so we got to share a birthday party -- a tradition we were NOT impressed with.
Thanks so much for your kind words! I can't believe it's been six months. A couple of people I know have had babies after me, so now I'm the old-timer mom. How did that happen??
oooh, I hadn't seen a newbie picture of Sam before now. He was gorgeous, all new and fresh -- although these days he is undoubtedly one of the cutest babies on the planet!
What a charmer your kid is! Happy 6 months, Sam.

Sam's very cute :-)
Hee, thanks, guys.
Libby, I was definitely not prepared for exactly how "new" and "fresh" Sam would look. Someone should warn you about the swollen eyes and the bright red lips and testicles! I thought I'd given birth to a baboon. A perfect, beautiful baboon, of course, but a baboon nonetheless.
