Coincidentally, "Ennui" Rhymes with "Almost Three"

So I just realized that when Sam plaintively tells us "I don't want to do anything," it means one of three things, depending on which word is emphasized:

"I don't want to do ANYTHING."

Translation: I am bored.

"I don't want to DO anything."

Translation: I am inconsolably sad for no apparent reason, though I invite you to try cheering me up.

"I don't WANT to do anything."
Translation: Your efforts are laughable.

Hehe. I believe your genius toddler will rule the world one day. Is he looking forward to being a big brother?

Aww, poor Sam. It's tough to be almost three!

When my daughters would say "I'm bored!" I would say "Enjoy it" as I never had time to be bored. Left to themselves, the problem always seemed to solve itself. Now in their 20s, they both have so many interests, the problem is sleep not boredom.
